Hello,

My name is Rick Morrissey and I am running for Town Council in Somers.  I am proud to be a Somers resident for the past 30 years, where I have lived with my wife and raised our son.  Somers has afforded us the opportunity to enjoy a wonderful quality of life, from involvement in the community to its rural appearance and recreational offerings.                                       

I have also enjoyed many years as a Modified Football and Lacrosse coach, and can say without reservation that we are raising a great group of talented and dedicated athletes.

The time has come for me to continue my service to Somers in a new and important way, and to assist in navigating the future challenges of budget constraints, service, delivery, and quality of life issues.

My service to the Town began when I was appointed to the Architectural Review Board and soon after was named Chair of the Board.  I am also Co-Chair of the Open Space Committee which was instrumental in the purchase of 654 acres of open space, now called Angle Fly Preserve.  The Committee has facilitated conservation easements, which will retain many acres of open space in perpetuity.  This will afford future generations of Somers residents undisturbed views of open vistas, fields and woodlands.  Additionally, the Angle Fly Preserve will soon be open to the public for hiking, bird watching, and fishing.
